SOUND AND VISION, BRADFORD, UK

Sound and Vision at the National Science and Media Museum reopened after a £6 million refurbishment, introducing two major new galleries in the heart of Bradford, UK. Alongside a programme of activities, the spaces showcase highlights from world-class collections of photography, film, television, animation, videogames, and sound technologies.

Working with AoC, Studio ZNA designed a lighting scheme that conveys energy and openness, guiding visitors on a carefully choreographed journey through zones of drama, contrast, and calm reflection. Controlled and synchronised lighting was integrated around key content while maintaining flow through the galleries and a clear connection from entrance to collection.

Lighting played a central role in the presentation of 19 Key Moments, using contrast, projection, and audio to create dynamic focal points that entice, orient, and inform. Each surrounding section was given its own lit quality and materiality, producing a rich and varied visitor experience.
